Beannachar is a Life-Sharing Community offering a therapeutic and supportive environment for young adults with additional support needs. As part of the worldwide Camphill Movement that has over 80 years' experience creating communities offering education, care and therapy to children and young people with additional support needs. Beannachar is one of six vibrant Camphill communities in and around Aberdeen, offering unique living and working opportunities for a fulfilling life.
With a distinctive staffing structure that promotes an inclusive ‘life sharing’ approach to supporting our students with additional support needs. There is an option for onsite accommodation for employed staff which is available from time to time. In addition, around 20 international volunteers join the community for up to a year life sharing alongside students in our residential houses. There is a strong sense of ‘community’ for everyone associated with Beannachar – students, staff and volunteers that makes it so special.

The primary purpose of our workshops is to provide a meaningful work experience, where the young adults we support also contribute to the community they live/work in and this creates a sense of achievement and togetherness
The Workshop leader role will also support and foster meaningful (work) experiences to allow students to build confidence and to have the resilience to help them in the process of self-discovery aimed at helping them to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, develop the range of emotional experiences, increase their self-esteem, self-confidence and self-awareness.

The Cook will be solely responsible in producing a home cooked mid-day meal and supper for approximately 12 people, Thursday and Friday, using locally sourced fresh produce. They will have responsibility for the day to day running of the kitchen and the delivery of quality meals to the residents and staff. Tasks will include food ordering and stock control, menu planning, accommodating special dietary needs, a requirement for rigorous cleanliness and infection control procedures, guiding and supporting a volunteer support worker either alone, or alongside a person with learning disabilities will be required.

This role is to support a young woman with additional support needs. Personal care is a requirement of the role. Due to the nature of the role, only female applicants may apply.
Lead Practitioners are integral to a well-performing team. They will lead shifts and will do so, ensuring that all the quality standards and values associated with the house are met by the team members that are on duty with them.
This is a key role as it provides the opportunity to work directly with students and to provide on the job coaching for staff at the same time. Lead Practitioners are expected to be role models for other members of the team, in providing best quality care practice. Lead Practitioners will also contribute to the student’s Personal Support Plans and the Performance Management of the staff team.

Support workers work directly with people with special needs; providing personal care and developmental support, as needed, by each individual student both in the houses and sometimes in the workshops. The support worker actively promotes the rights of our students as individuals; helps them to achieve their potential by strengthening areas where they can develop; and assists in creating a safe and homely environment.

(Social Work) University student placements at Beannachar
Beannachar supports the work experience needs of university students by providing practical placements which contribute to their personal and professional development. Beannachar can offer a unique practice placement (practical university semesters) and is looking for university students who are enthusiastic, resourceful, and responsible learner/ practictioners. Many students have successfully completed practical placements at Beannachar, and we welcome UK and International students from a range of disciplines. These placements are as per the Voluntary Co-worker placements, and applications are handled accordingly.
