Volunteer & Work Opportunities

A therapeutic and supportive environment for young adults with special needs.

Beannachar is a Life-Sharing Community offering a therapeutic and supportive environment for young adults with learning support needs. Alongside a core of live-in staff, called ‘Vocational Co-Workers’, and employed staff who live off-site, our life and work is further enhanced by an annual intake of short-term volunteers from abroad. This staffing mix creates an international flavour which is a highly valued aspect of our identity.

Volunteering

Potential co-workers usually apply by post or email or and are then asked to send a detailed C.V., a photograph, the names and addresses of two referees, a medical check and a criminal record check. After being fully informed about our life and work here, or if possible after an initial visit, they are asked to commit themselves for at least six months or preferably for a full year. All co-works new to Camphill life are expected to attend the Foundation Course. This course is comprised of one-hour weekly sessions, visits to other centres, and occasional specific training sessions and lectures. A full year's attendance entitles participants to a certificate. First Aid, epilepsy, manual handling, food hygiene, health and safety and adult protection courses are also provided to all co-workers. All co-workers receive regular supervision from their House Coordinator.

Employment

Senior positions are occasionally offered as employed roles, usually full time. These roles require minimum qualifications in Care and minimum experience in working environments similar to ours. A willingness to acquire the appropriate qualification while in post is often sufficient for the right candidate. Ancillary roles usually do not have qualification requirements. See below for current vacancies.
